Age may just be a number, but when people keep mistaking you for being 40 when you’re actually only in your early 30s, you know something has to be done. Here are some lifestyle changes you need to make for a younger looking you.
Apply sunscreen everyday.
Don’t underestimate the power of sunscreen. According to a new skin study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, daily, year-round sunscreen use can significantly slow down the skin's aging process by as much as 24 percent.
Give your hair a break from styling.
Too much heat and styling can make your hair dull and dry. Our tip: Give your hair a three-day break from the curling iron and blow dryer.
Be careful with your sodium intake.
If you want to look a lot younger than you actually are, you should consider lowering your sodium intake–it retains water, causing you to look puffy.
Exercising can improve your health to the point where you look and feel younger, says Frank Frisch, PhD, director of kinesiology at Chapman University in Orange, California. "Exercise puts your body in a state of arousal, which translates into more vitality and a greater sense of well being," Frisch added.
Gargle with mouthwash regularly.
Rinsing your mouth after brushing your teeth gets rid of small food particles. Its bacteria-killing ingredients also keep you gums healthier and pinker.
Eat more greens and fruits.
Eating healthy has a lot of benefits. According to WebMD, they contain antioxidants, like vitamin C, that help your skin look younger.
Get enough sleep.
Lack of sleep doesn't just impair your judgment and causes you to gain more weight, but also ages your skin. Although a few nights of missed sleep can give you sallow skin and puffy eyes, chronic sleep loss can lead to lackluster skin, fine lines, and dark circles under the eyes.
Handle stress head on.
Learn to manage your stress well instead of keeping it bottled up inside you. Go out with your friends, read a good book, or go on an out-of-town trip to help you relax and get your mind off things you shouldn’t be worrying about.
