Beauty queens' beauty tricks

Oct 8, 2008 by FN's Trixie Reyna

sushmita_sen.jpgIf you want to learn tips and tricks on looking great, the best resource persons are celebrities and beauty queens. After sharing with you some of Hollywood’s secrets to staying stunning, FemaleNetwork spills the beans on how beauty queens look the part.

Halle Berry
(Miss Teen All-American, Miss Ohio, second place in 1986 Miss USA, fourth in 1986 Miss World)
“Cleanse and moisturize twice a day. Use triple fruit acid cleaners as they work great to exfoliate the skin. In the morning, cleanse and rub pure vitamin C on your face. Lastly, apply moisturizer. Use a light moisturizer during summer.”

Jennifer Hawkins
(Miss Universe 2004)
This Australian beauty swears by moisturizers and body lotions, and would opt for a bronzer if she could have only one item of make-up in her bag. Her skin care ritual includes using cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and eye cream daily. She doesn’t apply toner, which she considers too much work. To pamper herself, she gets a facial and a massage.

Vanessa Williams
(First African-American woman to win the Miss America Pageant)
To maintain her ideal weight, Vanessa practices yoga, lifts weights, and uses the treadmill three times a week. She swears by Spanx once she hits the gym, since it helps her sweat more. She also avoids sweets.

Michelle Yeoh
(Miss Malaysia 1983)
The beauty queen turned actress keeps her face fresh and clean by giving it a lemon wash, which is best for oily skin since the acid in lemon cuts the face’s natural oil. Lemon juice also removes dirt from the pores. In preparing the solution, squeeze two to three lemons and mix with hot water and two to three tablespoons of honey in a jug and use as a face rinse. If your skin is not that oily, add more water to lessen the lemon’s potency. This is not recommended for sensitive skin.

Charlene Gonzales
(Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 1994 and the country’s representative to the 1994 Miss Universe pageant held in Manila, where she was one of the six finalists)
To keep her skin healthy, Charlene shares, “I drink a minimum of eight glasses of water a day. Water cleanses your system and makes your skin a lot nicer and prevents dryness. If you have the time, try using a milk compress. Place a face towel in a half-cup of cold evaporated milk and half-cup of ice water, then press the towel to your face. The compress moisturizes and cleans your skin. The milk has to be cold to close skin pores. You can't let the milk seep into your skin.”

Sushmita Sen
(Miss Universe 1994)
“Since I am filming most of the time, water and sleep become scarce and it shows on my skin in the form of dryness. [That’s why it’s important] to have proper and sound sleep at night to let your skin rejuvenate in a right way.” When it comes to skin care brands, Sushmita says, “I personally believe in sticking to a product because frequent switching is not good at all and you end up getting no benefits from either of the products. So, have patience and give some time to show the effects of the product on your skin.” She swears by Olay Regenerist, the skin care brand’s premium anti-aging line.

Consequently, Olay Regenerist will be introduced in the Philippines this November. Yet a month before it hits stores, Filipino women will have a chance to own the product that is already well-known in the United States, United Kingdom, China, Australia, and Singapore through its One-Day Pre-Sale. This will be held during mall hours on October 18, Saturday, in select SM Malls. For more details on this event, visit ShopCrazy or pre-register by clicking here.
