7 tips for looking great in photos

Jan 10, 2009 by FN's Trixie Reyna

look_great_in_pics.jpgWe all love to post photos on social networking sites like Facebook, Friendster, and Multiply. Sadly, we can’t always say we look picture-perfect in them. Most of the time, we bemoan having flabby arms, bloated faces, and a bulging puson—no matter how fine we thought we looked when the shot was taken.

So how do we look a million dollars in all photos our old friends and ex-lovers will probably see? According to this article by Yael Koen in MarieClaire.com, the trick actually lies in how light bounces off our faces. The article lets us take a leaf out of celebrity photographers and models’ book with these tips for manipulating light to our advantage.

1. Use peach blush to create a healthy glow on the upper part of your cheekbones.

2. Mask that double chin by lining the jaw with matte bronzer.

3. Create definition by dabbing light shimmer powder under the eyebrows, on inside corners of eyes, and along cheekbones.

4. Don’t wear clothes that are light-colored or shiny on parts of your body you don’t want to call attention to.

5. Tilt your head slightly up and forward to make your face look thinner.

6. Avoid being at the end in group shots, as that person will always look broader.

7. If you’re sitting, look slimmer by crossing your legs and leaning forward a bit.
