What’s your manic mommy personality?

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. But when things get frantic on multiple fronts, even the best of mommies may have a few manic moments. By Myra Mortega-Calulo

article_manic-mommy-quiz.jpgThere's no doubt about it--being a mom can be hard. We all want nothing but the best for our kids, but sometimes things just get out of hand. In fact, some situations can get quite tricky, especially when there crying, hair-pulling, and teeth-gnashing are involved. And when such situations arise, sometimes even the most efficient moms let their inner manic mommies take over.

So how do you fare in situations that get out of hand? More precisely, which manic alterego takes over: the Confused Mommy, Frazzled Mommy, or Obsessive Mommy? Take this quiz to find out!

1 .) After a couple of hours of playing outside, your child comes home with a wound and won’t stop crying. What do you do?
  1. Dive headfirst into the books to find out the best ways to keep infection at bay.
  2. Clean the wound—though you'll admit your mind may be on the dish you were preparing or the work you were doing.
  3. Frantically call the physician, your mom, and your mommy friends for some advice, comparing each of their suggestions.
2 .) You’re scheduled for a family portrait, and the photographer’s coming over in a few minutes. What are you doing?
  1. Rallying everybody up for the photo—everything needs to be done on schedule. Plus, you have to make sure your kids' clothes are pristine and their hair in place.
  2. Adding last minute touches to the venue, making sure everybody’s ready, and checking on lunch while texting the photographer to give him directions and ask him where he is.
  3. Looking at your friends’ family photos as well as magazines for tips and inspirations. You've already got dozens of samples, but you want to make sure your photographer has a lot to choose from.
3 .) You’re in a family outing at the beach, and your child insists on swimming, even though the water looks less than clean. Do you allow him to go?
  1. Definitely not! Who knows what lurks in there?
  2. Not before he’s armed to the teeth with floaters—which you're still inflating.
  3. You're not so sure. You'll want to consult your relatives or anyone else who knows the area better.
4 .) It’s your son’s birthday in a week. How are you doing with the planning?
  1. You're on top of everything, thanks to your to-do lists—the food, the venue, and your son are all in tiptop shape.
  2. You still need help with the invitations and the decorations, and you're on the prowl for the perfect birthday cake.
  3. You're still asking for the people’s opinion on the robot theme your son chose.
5 .) You son comes home from school and tells you about his encounter with a bully. What do you do?
  1. Schedule a talk with the principal, pronto! No one bullies your son while you have something to say about it.
  2. Comfort your son while doing the laundry and texting your husband about the situation.
  3. Tell him to fight back…or maybe not? You'll want to ask an authority what the best thing to do would be.
6 .) Your kid needs homework help, but you’re not comfortable handling math problems yourself. How do you help him out?
  1. Go straight to the Internet.
  2. Read his notes while tallying the month’s bills.
  3. Call friends for help.
7 .) Your child has fever. What’s the first thing you do?
  1. Immediately schedule an appointment with his pediatrician—maybe it’s not just fever, but a symptom of something else.
  2. Take his temperature every two hours, give him a sponge bath, and cook him some soup.
  3. Give him some herbal supplements—you heard they work much better than medicines.
8 .) Your child tells you he’s part of the school production. What’s your initial reaction?
  1. "I’ve always known my child is a star!"
  2. "I need to start working on his costume right away."
  3. "Wow! Maybe I should hire a personal acting coach? Is my child ready for show business?"
9 .) Your child throws a tantrum at the mall after you refuse to buy him an expensive gadget. How do you handle it?
  1. Admonish him right then and there—he should know that you’re always in charge.
  2. Ignore him and trust that he'll settle down—you still need to shop for groceries.
  3. Go back to the store for the gadget—you’d rather not make a scene.
10 .) How do you get to teach your child to eat more vegetables?
  1. Take the tough love route—if he’s not going to eat his veggies, he won’t have computer privileges for the week.
  2. Go undercover—sneakily incorporate inconspicuous pieces into every meal.
  3. Tell him everybody who’s anybody became great because of healthy food.
