Shy Girl: 4 Steps to Help Your Child Get Past Her Shyness

Create opportunities for your child to interact with other children. By Vange Alianan, Boboy Alianan

Children are born with a certain temperament. Your daughter may be shy and timid rather than sociable and extroverted. While there is nothing wrong with being an introvert, if she is intensely shy, she might have trouble making friends or even discovering her own potential because she feels too intimidated by everybody else.

Due to her shyness, it could be possible that adults adjust to your daughter more than she or her peers are willing to do so in social exchanges. If you observe adults frequently giving in to her wishes and whims, this may indicate some problems in your child’s emotional understanding and social skills.

For serious cases, you many need to seek some professional help from a psychologist, a developmental pediatrician, or a child psychiatrist. Any one of these professionals can do a quick assessment and refer you to the appropriate services, as necessary.

Before you do that, however, here are four strategies can try first.
