Say Goodbye to Picky Eaters! Get Your Kids to Help in the Kitchen

Let children get creative with their own meals to encourage them to go for more variety in their food choices.
picky_eater_baking.jpgAre your kids picky eaters? If they avoid their veggies at all costs or only finish their food if it’s fried chicken on their plates, it’s time to change tactics and make mealtimes more fun for them. Don’t know how? In a Lifehack.org article entitled “How to Turn a Picky Eater into an Independent Eater,” author ErinKurt says you can make them more open to trying new things by getting them involved in the kitchen.

“When kids are active participants in the cooking of their food, they become more interested and excited about it,” the author explains in the article. “There is an incentive to try new things! What often happens is that kids will end up trying something they’ve often refused just because they were not being asked, told, or forced to eat it.”

Guide them as they take their first steps in the kitchen. Keep things simple with snacks and no-bake goodies they can prepare themselves. Not only will this encourage them to have more variety in their food, but it will boost their self-confidence too and develop a practical skill (cooking) that will serve them well should they need to manage on their own in the future. The bonus is that this serves as bonding time for you as well, as you prepare meals together.
