1 .) Have you set aside money for your child’s tuition and other school fees?
  1. Not yet! I think I’ll have to charge whatever I can’t afford to my credit card.
  2. Almost there! My next payday should give me enough to afford everything, though.
  3. Definitely! I’ve been planning for this all summer, and I even have a little extra left over just in case.
2 .) Has your child been checked over by the family doctor and dentist so that any necessary procedures can be done before school starts?
  1. Yes. All immunizations are up to date, and any cavities have been filled.
  2. One’s down, one to go, and I’ve set an appointment for this weekend.
  3. No, but I’ll set an appointment ASAP.
3 .) Do you have a schedule for important dates in the new school year?
  1. Yes, I’ve already reviewed these and marked them in my organizer.
  2. Yes, and I’ve marked them on the family calendar and even planned outings for upcoming long weekends.
  3. No. I’ll have to ask the school for one, or at least look up the major holidays.
4 .) Have you checked on any new school policies you and your child should be aware of?
  1. Yes, but I need some time to go over these with my child.
  2. Yes, and I’ve talked to someone at the school about any concerns I have, then I explained them to my child.
  3. Not yet, but I’m sure I’ll get a bulletin on any important points.
5 .) Have you sorted through your child’s old school supplies to see what can be reused or handed down?
  1. Yes, we’ve reused and recycled what we could and designated everything for home use, school use, or disposal.
  2. Somewhat. We’ve at least organized paper into new and scratch, and we’ve put crayons and pencils into the proper holders.
  3. No, I don’t have time to go through every single thing. It would be more convenient to just buy new sets of whatever’s needed.
6 .) Have you started buying new school supplies for your child?
  1. No. We’ll probably just wait until after the first day so we can find out what books and other materials will be needed, then we’ll buy everything in one go.
  2. We’ve started, but we probably need to make another trip or two before school begins, then we’ll wait on requirements for specific classes.
  3. Yes, we’ve bought everything we think he’ll need, but we’re still waiting on lists from the school and individual teachers.
7 .) Have you ordered or repaired school uniforms for your child?
  1. Yes, down to the shoes and socks, and everything’s now neatly arranged in his closet.
  2. We’ve placed our orders and have started shopping for shoes and the like, but we’re still waiting to get the uniforms.
  3. We’ll be doing that on our marathon back-to-school shopping trip this weekend and the next.
8 .) Have you prepared a study area in your home for use once school starts?
  1. Yes, and the kids have been decorating it with cheerful and inspirational artwork and quotes.
  2. Yes, though we need to work on organizing it a bit better.
  3. It’s the same place it always is, but we definitely need to clear out last year’s stuff.
9 .) Have you organized your child’s transportation to and from school?
  1. I’m checking on options for shuttles or car pools.
  2. We’ve worked out and posted a schedule reminding everyone of who’s riding what or with whom on which days.
  3. We’ll probably just go with whatever’s convenient the first week or two, then work it out once we have a better idea of everyone’s schedules.
10 .) Have you started having your child sleep and wake up earlier?
  1. Yes, I have certainly been encouraging him to follow an earlier bedtime, but I let him stay up every now and then.
  2. Yes, we’ve started setting a certain bedtime hour, but he can stay up an hour or two later on weekends and special days.
  3. No, I’m going to let him enjoy whatever’s left of his summer, and part of that is sleeping and rising when he wants to.
11 .) Have you and your child had a chance to talk about any concerns about and plans for the new school year?
  1. Yes, and we’ve set goals for him and agreed upon rewards for when he meets them.
  2. Yes, but mostly in a general sense rather than anything really specific.
  3. No, but I’ve told him that he can certainly come to me with any plans or issues he might have.
12 .) Have you and your child decided on any after-school activities?
  1. Yes, but we’ll concretize these plans after school starts so he still has time to change his mind.
  2. Yes, we’ve already enrolled him in classes and camps he’s said he really wants to try.
  3. No, we’ll see first what the school has to offer then let him think about which he’d be interested in.
