Zac Efron is convinced he’ll never be able to date like a normal person because his personal life is always in the public eye.
The Neighbors actor began his screen career at a young age and became a Hollywood heartthrob in his early 20s, putting his love life with leading ladies like his High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens under the microscope.
Zac recently split from his model girlfriend Sami Miro, and he admits finding a partner willing and able to handle all the added attention of having a relationship in the limelight is harder than he ever imagined.
“Dating is something I’ll never be able to do,” he confesses to U.K. newspaper The Times. “As in the dictionary definition of dating, because one way or another I’ve impacted that person’s life and they’ll soon realize it.”
Even getting a potential girlfriend to put aside their preconceived notions about the actor has proven to be difficult, as Zac adds, “A date has to be very long to dispel whatever people think about me.”
The 28-year-old confesses he’s even tried popular dating app Tinder, but even then he couldn’t get any ladies to meet up with him, because they thought his account was run by an impostor.
“Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me!,” Zac reveals. “They thought it was fake… That never happened.”
Zac’s romance with Sami lasted just over a year and a half. They made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Los Angeles premiere of Zac’s box office flop We Are Your Friends last summer. They last appeared in public together at the MTV Movie Awards in April.
