The recent Twitter woes Zsa Zsa Padilla and Sharon Cuneta have been suffering have no doubt made us wonder: how do other stars deal with the criticism they get over social networking sites? After all, these help celebrities become more accessible to their fans, but they also leave them wide open for bashers.

My Binondo Girl actor Xian Lim has received both positive and negative feedback via his Facebook and Twitter accounts, and he shared his take on these comments during the launch of Globe Telecom’s newest offers on March 23. “Sa mga negative comments about me, I don’t really pay attention that much,” he is quoted as saying on PEP.ph. “For me, babasahin ko siya. It’s just good room for improvement din, e. Pag in-analyze ng konti: ‘Bakit kaya nila sinasabi yun?’ (For me, I'd read [the negative comments]. It's also good room for improvement. When you analyze it a bit and ask, ‘Why do you think they would say that?’).”

While he says he hasn’t received anything he would consider a major attack, he says he would know how to handle it. “Pag nakikita ko yung [mga comment na,] ‘Ay, parang hindi masyado pumatak yung luha niya dun!’ yung mga ganun, e, di next time, talagang papapatakin ko na yung [luha ko] ng todo-todo! (When I see comments like, ‘Oh, it’s like his tears didn’t seem to really fall that much!’ and others like that, well, next time, I’ll really cry my eyes out!)”

Xian also commented on how he thought artists should handle bashers who use social networking as their medium for criticism. “Ang isipin lang nila, there’s one basher, and there are hundred thousands more who want to listen sa mga positive things that you want to say. So [that’s] one versus a hundred thousand.”

He also went on to talk about the responsibility celebrities have to take on when it comes to social networking. Because actors affect, inspire, and entertain so many people, he says, “You have to be really careful with what you say kasi you might offend other people. So you just take it in. You [just] have to worry about the people who love you, di ba?”
