Marjorie Barretto’s camp has confirmed that the actress-politician is the woman in the nude photos that have been circulating around social networking sites recently. She then personally called PEP.ph editor in chief Jo-Ann Maglipon on the evening of May 7 to explain her earlier statement.

“When you called me that first time, I swear, I was stunned,” Marjorie explained in an article on PEP.ph. “I didn’t know what you were talking about. I didn’t even know that there was anything circulating anywhere about me… I asked you to describe the photos to me, and [when you did] I really did not recognize myself as being the person. That’s why I said it wasn’t me.”

“When I finally got to my lawyer’s office, oh my god, ang dami na palang mga lumabas (there were so many that came out!)! My photos! Thursday pa pala! We talked Monday na!” she exclaimed. “Nobody even told me, that is my disappointment. Kayo lang ang nagsabi sa akin (You were the only ones who told me about it.).”

Marjorie’s legal counsel, the Kapunan Garcia & Castillo Law Offices, also issued a statement, which was published in another article on PEP.ph, saying that they will take legal action against the people responsible for spreading the controversial photos.

“Our client did not authorize the posting of her nude photos and they were never intended for public consumption,” read the statement. “Please note that the publication through the internet and other media formats of these photos is a clear violation of our client’s right to privacy, which is safeguarded by no less than the Philippine Constitution. Likewise, the dissemination of the said photos is a blatant defiance of Republic Act No. 9995 also known as the ‘Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.’”

“The matter of the dissemination and uploading of the aforementioned photos is already the subject of an ongoing investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation,” it continued. "We are taking all legal steps to ensure that the right to privacy of our client is respected. We will pursue all the appropriate legal actions necessary to ensure that those principally responsible for this criminal action are punished."
