For the first time, '90s pop icon Britney Spears will be staging her first concert in Manila at SM Mall of Asia Arena on June 15, 2017. Filipino fans rejoiced upon the announcement as Britney Spears has been one of the most celebrated artists in the music industry for the past two decades. The American pop sensation has been hailed the “undisputed Princess of Pop” for her dynamic stage performances, electric dance hit singles, and groundbreaking music videos.

Before the big show in the Philippines on June 15, let’s take a look back on the international superstar’s career and count down the moments that had made Britney a pop culture icon.

...Baby One More Time, 1998

This was the single that started it all. The so-called “Britney mania” began with her debut single "…Baby One More Time." The image of Britney dancing in a schoolgirl uniform along the school hallway is one of the most iconic moments from the '90s. The single is also considered one of the greatest hits of the era.

Following the release of her debut album of the same title, Britney swept most of the female category awards at the 1999 Billboard Music Awards. She won Female Artist of The Year, Female Albums Artist of The Year, and Female Singles of The Year.

They had also named her New Artist of the Year. Eventually, at 2000 Billboard Music Awards, ...Baby One More Time got the record of Biggest One-Week Sales of an Album ever by a Female Artist and Britney hailed the Albums Artist of the Year.

In the franchise’s history, the pop icon contributed many iconic stage performances which made her one of their most celebrated performers. Among her biggest numbers on the VMAs was back in 2000 where Britney promoted her sophomore album Oops! … I Did It Again.

Appearing onstage in a Michael Jackson-esque suit before stripping down to a flesh-colored sequined outfit, the 19-year-old pop star princess wowed audiences with her showmanship and energy. This solo performance cemented Britney’s status as a global pop sensation.

"Toxic," In The Zone, 2003

Britney’s fourth studio album was aptly titled In the Zone as the music icon was at the prime of her career upon its release.

Around that time, the multi-award winning entertainer already had a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as the artist with the Best Selling Album by a Teenage Solo Artist, Best Selling Album in the US by a Female Artist, Fastest Most No. 1 Singles on UK chart by a teenage Female Solo Artist, and Best Selling Teenage Artist.

Her success hit sky-high this year with the release of the groundbreaking dance single Toxic, which earned Britney her first-ever Grammy award for Best Dance Recording. Locking lips with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards

2003 was a pivotal year for Britney. While her music career was in the best position possible, the monstrous side of fame slowly began to rear its ugly head with the media following the "Toxic" singer’s every move.

Prior to her opening performance with the Queen of Pop and rival pop princess Christina Aguilera at the 2003 VMAs, Britney already headlined the tabloids with her love life. One of Britney’s most known exes was NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake and they were one of the golden couples at the time.

Their breakup was certain to cause a media firestorm.

At the VMAs, the media continued to riot when Britney and Madonna shared a kiss mid-performance in their shared opening number with Christina.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline: Chaotic, 2006-2007

Every Britney fan could recall the chaos that erupted when Britney began to date backup dancer Kevin Federline.

They started dating in 2004. Three months into the relationship, the two were engaged and married.

In 2005, Britney and Kevin welcomed their first son, Sean Preston.

A year after, they welcomed their second son, Jayden James. Then two months after, Britney filed for divorce and a custody battle for their children set the pop star down a spiral of public mental breakdowns.

In and out of rehab, the two high points of her madness were the time Britney abruptly shaved off her head and the time she attacked a paparazzo’s car with an umbrella. Still, despite the media frenzy surrounding her personal, the international songstress managed to release her fifth studio album Blackout.
