Broadcast journalist Arnold Clavio shared his opinion about sports commissioner Cristy Ramos's sexual harassment complaint against Azkals players Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado on morning show Unang Hirit on March 13, PEP.ph reports.
"Talagang aral na sa inyo 'yan. Ang yayabang n'yo," he is quoted as saying. "Akala n'yo porke't dinadagsa kayo ng mga fan, ang gaguwapo n'yo, e. Parang God's gift to women. E, alam ng lahat, ikinukuwento nga ni Cristina, lahat ginawa para ipaalam na may babaeng papasok sa locker, ilang katok nga sila, e. (This really is a lesson for you. You're all so arrogant. You think just because fans flock to you, you're so handsome. As if you're God's gift to women. We all know from Cristina's statements that all means were exhausted to let you know a woman was going into the locker room. They even knocked repeatedly.)"
"Hindi ko kayo kakultura (We're not of the same culture)," he also said, referring to how most of the Azkals are not pure-blooded Filipinos. "Kasi wala dito [pointing at his heart] at wala dito [pointing at his head]. Hindi naman kayo Filipino. Nagpapanggap lang kayong kayumanggi. Hindi kayo dito lumaki; mahirap yun. (You're not Filipinos in [heart and mind]. You're not really Filipinos. You're just pretending to be. You didn't grow up here; it's difficult.) Insensitive."
Actress Angel Locsin, who is dating Azkals player Phil Younghusband, reacted to Arnold's statements on her Twitter account, @143redangel, on March 14. "I think Arnold Clavio's a good person. But this time, sobrang foul lang. That's his opinion. This is mine. Madali lang sumira ng reputasyon, mahirap ibalik. Konting sensitivity lang sana (It's easy to ruin someone's reputation, bu it's hard to get it back. I wish he'd shown a little sensitivity)," she said.
Afterward, she replied to several negative comments other Twitter users had about her statement. "I'm reacting about the racist comment, not the harassment issue po. Have a nice day :)" she clarified in one tweet.
"Hindi naman po isang tao lang ang Azkals (The Azkals are not just one person)," she said in another. "At hindi naman po yung issue yung pagiging Pinoy nila. Unfair po yun. (And the issue isn't about their being Pinoy. That's unfair.)"
Meanwhile, Arnold apologized for his words but clarified that the issue was about sexual harassment. "Wala po akong ganoong intensyon. Ang isyu po rito ay sexual harassment, at kung may nagamit man po akong mga salita na hindi angkop, nagpapakumbaba po ako at humihingi ng pang-unawa. Dun naman po sa mga kasama kong nanindigan laban sa sexual harassment, maraming salamat po. Seryoso pong isyu ito na dapat bantayan (I had no such intentions. The issue here is sexual harassment, and if I might have used inappropriate words, I'm being humble and asking for your understanding. To those who are fighting sexual harassment with me, thank you so much. This is a serious issue that needs attention)," he is quoted as saying on PEP.ph.
