Five new plays to watch at PETA

Historical backgrounds and battlefields, European adaptations, the last of a stage trilogy, and back to back plays for kids complete the Philippine Educational Theater Association's (PETA) lineup of plays for its 41st theater season. Check out the new plays and be see how you can get special theater packages from PETA!

Noli and Fili
We get a glimpse of the backgrounds of Jose Rizal's novels from from Nic Tiongson's Noli and Fili Dekada 2000 (Dos Mil), directed by Soxie Topacio. Set in a small town in the Quezon province dominated by small town politics and social mores, the play imagines the backdrop of Rizal's novels in the 20th century.
July 18 to Aug. 24, Fridays to Sundays at 10AM and 3PM

Tosca
Under the direction of Soxie Topacio, PETA's interpretation of Puccini's classic opera piece takes place during the Japanese occupation, where Tosca becomes the battleground of Japanese Imperialism, patriotic love and selfish greed.
Aug. 29 and 30, at 2:30PM and 7:30PM

Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang and Batang Rizal (back to back Children's Theater)
Director Nor domingo tackles mythical journeys into self discovery and value formation with Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang, which covers three Severino Reyes' folktales, namely Ang Prinsipeng Mahaba ang Ilong, Ang Binibining Tumalo sa Mahal na Hari, and Ang Prinsipeng Duwag. Meanwhile, Batang Rizal revisits the notions of heroism and love of country from a child's point of view. Dudz Teraña directs.
Sept. 19 to Oct. 12, Fridays to Sundays at 10AM and 3PM

Saan Ba Tayo Ihahatid Ng Disyembre?
PETA completes Tony Perez's trilogy on friendship, love, and compassion with Saan Ba Tayo Ihahatid ng Disyembre, directed by Nonon Padilla.
Nov. 14 to Dec. 7, with Friday performances at 2:30PM and 7:30PM, and Saturday and Sunday performances at 10AM and 3PM

PETA adapts European masters
PETA's writers, directors, and actors tackle European playwrights in a pseudo festival for a grand season finale.
Feb. 6 to March 15, 2009, on Fridays at 2:30PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 10AM and 3PM
