Fan feature: Breaking Dawn pre-launch party

Aug 15, 2008 by Nannah Tobias

BreakingDawn_Final.jpgAre you a Twilight fan?

The long wait for the final installment of the tender vampire saga by author Stephanie Meyer—of Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse—is finally here. Breaking Dawn sold 1.3 million copies on the first day it was released.

Not to be left behind in the craze, Filipino fans trooped to the recent pre-launch party of Breaking Dawn at Powerbooks Greenbelt. Over 200 predominantly-female readers of the saga about star-crossed lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan—that is quickly turning into a worldwide phenomenon said to rival Harry Potter—came for the book event garbed in their best Twilight-inspired costumes and shirts; some even wore furry werewolf ears in homage to a werewolf character in the series, while others came bearing their masterpieces for the Twilight Fan Art and Photo Contest.

The vampire-smitten fans kept screaming the names of their favorite characters from Twilight, the first book. I never knew that Edward, the dazzling vampire male lead character, had these many fans in the country, and I was able to meet some of them. One of fans was even a mom who came with her daughter, who at that time was having her photo taken in the “Portrait with Edward” booth. She says she is a devoted vampire fan, but more than that, she enjoys the books since she gets to bond with her daughter about them.

If you haven’t read any of the books, better get yourself bitten by the vampire-bug immediately—before the film-adaptation of Twilight opens in theaters on December 12! If you need more convincing, check out the Twilight movie trailer.

And as the excitement over the story’s conclusion reaches fever pitch, Powerbooks presents customers with a great opportunity to be one of the first to sink their teeth into Breaking Dawn through the pre-order promo. Order your copy online at www.powerbooks.com.ph and get a 10% discount on your book purchase. Promo runs until August 31, 2008. If you already are a Twilight fan, join the Twilight Retrospective Book Discussion tomorrow, 4PM, at Powerbooks Greenbelt. Visit twilightcovenph.multiply.com for more details.

Breaking Dawn is now available at Powerbooks stores.
