In the second part of FemaleNetwork's exclusive one-on-one with GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment TV Wilma Galvante, the mother of four talks about how her family is handling the stress from issues surrounding her now, such as the ongoing exchange of lawsuits with talent manager Annabelle Rama.
How is your family handling the stress now from the controversies that come with your job?
They’re behind me. They know their mommy’s strong.
And they’re not affected by it?
We talk about it e. And what I’m showing them is you have to fight for your principles, your name. After everything is said and done, after many things that you do, in your life, with your career eventually, your family—at the end of the day, it is your integrity, your name. Minsan, you talk about it kasi proud ka lang, or [because of] pride. It’s not that. Any self-respecting person will stand up for what is right. If somebody intends to harm you, you’d do everything to prevent that person from harming you, and from continuing to harm you. But you have to take the higher ground. That’s another way of saying you don’t go down to the level…(laughs).
"If somebody intends to harm you, you'd do everything to prevent that person from harming you."
Given all these, is there any tip you can give to mothers out there and mother figures such as yourself?
Madami! (Laughs) Siguro I can say, don’t ever stop learning. Look at everything that happens to you, people who come to you and who get involved with your life, everything you do as a learning experience. I am always learning. I told you I learned from my children, from any situation, from what happened this morning, [and think], “How can I use it?” [It’s] continuous learning, so you appreciate, because when you learn, when that is your attitude, [when you consider that] these are all learnings, then appreciation follows. Learning lang ‘yan so bakit mo aawayin? (Laughs) Bakit ka madi-disappoint, you’re learning nga from it. And appreciation follows.
If something fails, then it’s still learning. It’s a learning experience so you appreciate it, and then you’re not negative. And you don’t wallow, you don’t get miserable. You say it’s easier said than done, that’s also true, but if you have this conviction or mindset, then it will help you in everything—even in your relationship with your husband or with your boyfriend. That’s how I see it e.
