Too much steam on the new Gossip Girl ads?

Jul 28, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

gg_ad.jpgDid you see just how steamy the ads are for Gossip Girl's upcoming season?

It's not exactly the first time that Gossip Girl released controversial ads. Last April, the ads for the show's return also raised some questions--and now they're back, with stars Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester, and Ed Westwick looking all game in sexy, scandalous poses that would keep all the hush-hush gossip going.

And while some of us can't help but be excited, it's still worth noting that the ads are getting some attention from critics, particularly because nobody can really stop kids from seeing them and watching the show. "I think it reeks of desperation, if they have to position themselves as so edgy and so controversial that they’ve been called out by us," the Parents Television Council's Melissa Henson told the Associated Press.

However, the CW network stands by the new ads. "This sort of campaign resonates with someone who likes Gossip Girl," Marketing chief Rick Haskins told the AP.

Do you think the ads are just right or are they bordering on the inappropriate?
