Rosanna Roces has explained the reason behind her outburst against her son Onyok on Good Friday, March 29. In an interview with talk show host Cristy Fermin on the April 6 episode of the TV5 show Ang Latest Updated, the actress said that her son's girlfriend was the cause of their controversial spat.
“Ang isyu, hindi naman sa amin, e. Ang isyu, sa isang babae na ewan ko kung saan niya pinulot,” she was quoted as saying in an article on PEP.ph. “Kasi ako, bawal 'yun, e—yung ipagpalit ang kadugo (The issue is not about us. The issue is about a girl whom he picked up from nowhere. Because for me, that’s a big mistake—choosing someone else over family.).”
Rosanna then shared that she only asked Onyok about how to add pictures on a tablet, but she wasn’t able to tolerate her son’s rude reaction to her question.
“Paangil pa yung sagot niya. ‘Ah, kasi ako…' gumanun,” she said. “Ay, sabi ko… pinalo ko na ng tablet! Tapos biglang nagwawala na ako, sabi, ‘Ma, may ibang tao (He irritably said, ‘Ah, because when I do this…’ So I replied… by hitting him with the tablet! Then when I was freaking out, he said, ‘Ma, there’s somebody else here.).’”
This turned out to be his girlfriend, who was staying in a room.
“Hindi alam 'nung alalay ko na nandiyan 'yung babae, nasa kuwarto pala,” she continued. “At 'nung pagmumura ko ngayon, siyempre, ‘Walanghiya ka, nang dahil lang sa babae na ‘yan, dahil lang sa babae na ‘yan…’ nasapak ko (My assistant didn’t know that the girl was in the room. And then I started cursing him, of course, saying, ‘You’re shameless, you're arguing with me just because of a girl, because of that girl…’ I hit him!)!”
Though Rosanna says she only did it because she was fed up her child’s rude behavior, she was still quick to defend him against rumors.
“May nababasa pa kong adik si Onyok. Pero hindi, in fairness, hindi,” she said. “Hindi siya adik, hindi siya umiinom, sobrang kuripot nga niyan. Tingnan mo, Onyok, kahit anong gawin mo sa akin, magre-reflect, Rosanna Roces pa rin ang titirahin (I read somewhere that Onyok was an addict. But in fairness, he’s not. He’s not an addict, he doesn’t drink. He’s actually very thrifty. See, Onyok, no matter what you do, it will reflect on me, they’ll still target Rosanna Roces.).”
When asked about the possibility of a reconciliation, Rosanna had broken down, saying that it would be a long process.
“Matagal ‘to, matagal ‘to, kasi hindi ordinary ‘to, e,” she said. “Buti pa nga pinatay mo na lang ako, o sana sinagasaaan ako ng pison, kinidlatan ako o mahulog ako… Pag may biyaya, hindi marunong magpasalamat… Pera na ang Diyos niya—'yun ang sumira sa pamilya ko (This will take a long time, because this isn’t ordinary. It might be better if you just killed me, ran me over with a bulldozer, if I was just hit with lightning, or if I fell somewhere… He doesn’t know how to be grateful for his blessings. He worships money—that’s what destroyed my family.).”
