Rock hall-of-famer Nine Inch Nails in Manila this August!

Jun 24, 2009 by FN's Trixie Reyna

One of life’s greatest experiences is seeing music legends perform live, which is why we should always take advantage of opportunities when any of them happen to include the Philippines as one of their world tour stops. So when rock legends Nine Inch Nails perform live at the Araneta Coliseum on August 5, we expect you, our music-loving readers, to be there!

NIN mastermind Trent Reznor caps a wildly successful career and takes a victory lap with this tour intriguingly called Wave Goodbye. “In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases," Reznor wrote in his blog. "I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year."

This got hard core fans thinking that this just might be NIN’s last tour, which probably explains why anticipation is mounting for the show and fans are reportedly scrambling for tickets. In fact, as soon as local promoter Splintr opened ticket sales last month, fans have been lining up to snag much-coveted front row seats. So be sure you don’t miss out on this rare chance to see NIN.

After all, we’re quite sure it’s going to be an amazing show. As Splintr reports, Reznor is known to assemble a rotating cast of touring musicians and orchestrate some of the most memorable live performances: from the remarkable Self-Destruct tour to the sensory experience that was the Lights in the Sky tour, down to the raw power of Wave Goodbye. In the studio, Reznor played most of the instruments himself, while NIN classics such as “Sin” and “Purest Feeling” owe as much to their experiments with industrial bands Skinny Puppy and Coil as to Prince's pop songwriting.

As if these aren’t reason enough for you to go crazy over the show, independent online music channel Splintr brings music-lovers another treat: the local band opening for NIN will be hot local band Pupil, handpicked by Reznor himself to be their opening act. Pupil frontman and Eraserheads alumna Ely Buendia was reportedly excited to hear the news. As the band said on their website, “NIN playing in Manila is beyond awesome, we are excited as hell to open for them.”
