Rhian Ramos Celebrates Her Birthday With Sick Children

The actress celebrated her 22nd birthday at the Philippine Children's Medical Center.

Rhian Ramos brought smiles to a lot of children’s faces when she celebrated her 22nd birthday on October 17 at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMM). The actress revealed that she has a soft spot for children, especially for young cancer patients.

“I have a couple of family members who has had cancer and my best friend had leukemia before,” she revealed in an interview with PEP.ph. “When I was younger, my eyes were opened to the world of, kapag may sakit, kailangan talaga everyone has to help out. Parang di 'yun puwedeng pagdaanan nang mag-isa. Parang you make the best out of every situation, always make it happy, always find a way to make it a happy memory. Kaya gusto ko parang party lagi, masaya (When I was younger, my eyes were opened to the reality that when someone’s sick, everyone has to help out. It’s not something you can conquer on your own. It’s like, you have to make the best out of every situation, to always make it happy, always find a way to make it a happy memory. This is why I always want to throw parties, so that it will be a happy occasion.).”

In an interview aired on the Chika Minute segment of GMA’s 24 Oras, Rhian explained why she chose to celebrate her birthday this year at the hospital instead of at Child Haus, an organization that takes care of cancer-stricken children.

“Every year kasi nagse-celebrate ako sa Child Haus pero ngayon dahil feeling ko mas may kakayahan na ‘ko to take on a bigger place, ayun kaya [sa PCMM] (Every year, I celebrate my birthday at Child Haus, but because I felt that I can take on a bigger place, here we are at PCMM),” she was quoted as saying in an article on GMANetwork.com.

She also clarified that she will still be lending a helping hand to Child Haus for her birthday. “Tutulong pa rin ako sa Child Haus this year through donation, pero dito 'yung party ko [sa PCMM] (I’ll still help Child Haus this year by sending donations, but my party is here at PCMM.)."
