Regine Velasquez Cries Onstage While Singing Her Parents' Favorite Song

The singer got emotional while singing Frank Sinatra's "You'll Never Know" on a Sunday noontime show.

Regine Velasquez couldn’t help but get teary-eyed when she sang the Frank Sinatra song “You’ll Never Know” during the August 12 episode of Party Pilipinas. The songbird then explained her sudden breakdown on the show H.O.T. TV, which she hosts.

Kasi meron kaming bagong segment ngayon sa Party Pilipinas na ‘Mr. & Mrs. A.,’” she was quoted as saying in an article by PEP.ph. “Yung mga viewers natin, magpapadala sila ng mga love stories nila tapos magre-request sila ng song. This week, for the first time, ang ginamit naming story… hindi naman talaga namin ikinuwento yung buong story, 'yung sa nanay at tatay ko. And ‘You’ll Never Know’ is their favorite song. Kaya medyo naging emotional ako. Siyempre kasi medyo nagbabago na ang panahon.” (It’s because we have a new segment in Party Pilipinas called ‘Mr. and Mrs. A., where our viewers can send their love stories and request a song. This week, for the first time, the story we used… [although] we didn’t share the whole story, it’s my mom and dad’s. And ‘You’ll Never Know’ is their favorite song. That’s why I became a bit emotional. Of course, it’s because times are changing.)."

The article said that Regine’s dad, who is fondly called Mang Gerry, was her first singing mentor. It was revealed that he underwent a “minor surgery” last June, of which Regine did not disclose any more details. However, she did share that her father is okay.

“Yeah, I just want to let everybody know that’s he’s okay, okay naman siya. Pero alam mo 'yung… he can be better. 'Yung parang I wish na mas okay pa siya, 'yung bumalik yung dati niyang sigla, 'yung ganun (Yeah, I just want to let everybody know that he’s okay. However, you know he can be better. It’s like I’m wishing that he’ll feel better, that his former strength would return, things like that),” she said.
