Raymart Santiago has strongly denied accusations of domestic abuse in relation to the Temporary Protection Order (TPO) that his wife, Claudine Barretto, recently filed against him.
In a statement he sent to GMA News TV show Balitanghali on July 30, the actor said that he has kept quiet for a long time about the issue with Claudine, but he has now been forced to tell his side of the story for the safety of their kids, Sabina and Santino.
Raymart said that many people can prove that he has never abused Claudine physically, and that as a father, he would never put his children in harm’s way.
“Marami rin ang makakapagpatunay na may kakayahan siyang gumawa ng kuwento,” he was quoted as saying in an article on PEP.ph. “I strongly deny her accusations. Lalabas din ang katotohanan. Sasagutin namin ang lahat sa korte sa tamang panahon (Many people can prove that she can invent stories. I strongly deny her accusations. The truth will come out. We’ll answer everything in court at the right time.).”
However, Claudine’s lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, insists that the filing of the TPO was not a publicity gimmick, claiming that the actress had really thought about filing the case because it might have negative repercussions on their children. He also hinted that Raymart might be the reason for Claudine’s reported attitude problem.
“Actually, she was very reluctant to do this until the very last minute... Hanggang ngayon, hindi tumitigil ang pag-iyak niya and she's really in a lot of pain—emotionally, mentally... Hindi kaya dahil ganoon si Claudine ay talagang because since 2005 ay may hindi na siya nagiging magandang karanasan sa pagsasama niya kay Mr. Raymart Santiago? Kaya nga she has to be fixed, kaya nga may psychiatrist kaming kukunin to analyze her (Until now, she hasn't stopped crying, and she's really in a lot of pain—emotionally, mentally... Could it be possible that her rocky relationship with Raymart is the reason behind her problems since 2005? That's why she has to be fixed, that's why we're getting a psychiatrist to analyze her),” he was quoted as saying in a separate article on PEP.ph.
