Original female stars return to 90210

Jan 30, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

Beverly Hills, 90210 was not just a hit show, it was a TV icon. It not only lasted ten years and remained strong throughout its run, the show also made matinee stars out of its cast members.

And while the 90210 remake continues to do well in the United States, many fans fondly remember the original characters played by Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, and Jennie Garth. It then comes as no surprise that Shannen and Jennie should reprise their now mature roles in 90210. Jennie's old character Kelly Taylor is now a guidance counselor at West Beverly High, while Shannen's Brenda returns to town for a project but somehow ends up complicating her friendship with Kelly.

Albeit belated, Tori Spelling has now also committed to play Donna Martin once more for a multi-episode story arc.

After Beverly Hills, life proved to be sweet for these women as their showbiz careers continued to flourish. Doherty starred in other TV series such as Charmed and North Shore, and also dabbled in directing before producing three more shows. Meanwhile, Garth appeared in 86 episodes of What I Like About You and starred in three films made for TV.

Spelling found screen life in different indie movies and even the hit series Smallville. She had lead roles in a couple of "reality" series, one of them with her second husband, Dean McDermott. Spelling also authored Stori Telling, an autobiography that debuted on the New York Times Best Seller list.

See how the original female cast members of Beverly Hills continue to rock today's 90210. Do you think the current 90210 cast can live up to the hype?

Catch 90210 on Tuesdays, 9PM, on Star World.
