On TV tonight: Regine and Robin reunite in Totoy Bato

Feb 23, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

The Robin Padilla-Regine Velasquez tandem proved to be a success as proven by their smash hit Till I Met You back in 2006. Tonight, the two stars reunite for Totoy Bato, a new Carlo J. Caparas series on GMA-7's primetime block.

Totoy Bato tells the story of Totoy (Padilla) and Anna (Velasquez), two best friends with different dreams: Anna wants to become a successful singer, whereas Totoy only wants to be reunited with his father. Totoy gets his wish when his father, Podong (Ronnie Lazaro), comes home from serving his sentence in prison. However, Podong turns out to be abusive. Totoy seeks comfort in Anna, who relocates to Manila but not without a promise to return to him someday.

Anna eventually gets her wish, while Totoy settles in the province with his wife Elena (Ara Mina) and their daughter, Cecilia (Sweet Ramos). But Totoy's world suddenly falls apart when a haciendero steals his land and kills Elena in the process. The tragedy drives Totoy to begin a new life in Manila, where he starts training as a boxer under retired boxer Fredo (Eddie Garcia) and Pacman (Manny Pacquiao).

Totoy Bato marks the drama debut of professional boxer Manny Pacquiao, who plays Totoy's trainer and close friend. If you didn't get to see Pacman's first movie back in 2007, you will see for yourself in Totoy Bato if the boxing champion has acting prowess to show off, too.

Take your first look at the cast in the gallery below and don't forget to tune in to the pilot episode tonight on GMA-7.
