Kris Aquino Suspends her Twitter Account for Privacy: How much should celebs share on social networking sites?

Take the poll and tell us how open celebs should be on Facebook and Twitter. By Stephanie Castillo

Kris_Aquino_twitter_article.jpgActress and TV host Kris Aquino announced last Friday that she would be canceling her Twitter account to preserve "what is left" of her family's privacy, reports this PEP.ph article.

Using her official account itsmekrisaquino, the star tweeted (verbatim), "Stress & long hours led to a big misunderstanding. I have never lied to all of u until now hindi pa completely na-fi-fix. That's y I've just chosen to keep quiet since it's something very private." Regarding the issue that has not yet been "fixed," Kris is referring to the rumored marital problems between her and husband James Yap.

The latest tweet from Kris read, "I received this tweet several days ago--bakit hindi niyo minemention si james sa mga tweet niyo, only josh & baby james? I replied to it w/ honesty. My attention was called by Noy [her brother, president-elect Noynoy Aquino] about this. So in the interest of keeping what is left of our privacy... I will suspend being active on twitter."

Kris, who has been known to speak before she thinks (remember that whole debacle over her leaving the country if Noynoy won the elections?) is also resigning from her entertainment shows SNN and The Buzz. Canceling her Twitter account, which may open both her and her family to intrigue, seems to be a logical move for the star.

Kris tweeted, "Sometimes being quiet (obviously difficult for me) is the only prudent course when u r the sister of the country's president-elect. Thanks to all who followed my tweets."

We know you've probably got your own Twitter and Facebook accounts, which is perfectly fine when you're a civilian. But when you're a public figure, should you be more discerning with what you share on your social networking sites?

Poll Question:
How much do you think celebs should share on their Facebook and Twitter pages?
  1. Everything! I want to know what they’re eating, where they’re shopping, who they’re talking to—nakakaaliw kasi!
  2. They need to be discerning: they should share when there is information worth sharing, when they need to express something important to everyone.
  3. I don’t think they should share personal things on these sites at all—there’s too much room for misunderstanding and oversharing, and once someone sees what these celebs tweeted or put on their wall, they can never take it back.
  4. Who cares? Even if they start squabbling on Twitter or Facebook, it all just feeds their publicity.

In Kris's case she should really stop tweeting because she might say something inappropriate again and it doesn't sit well with her being the president's sister.

She tends to be OA in everything, to a point when it's painful to witness and hear. She needs to think and rethink what she says even when people would say, "she's just true to herself". But what is the point of being true to yourself if it costs you your privacy?

I'd rather be modest and stand among the rest than being "naked" and applauded by everyone.

Kris should watch out her words, because everyone is looking after her. she should be careful in everything she is doing.

i believe it's better that celebrities have their own privacies. we should give them that. we're being unrespectful sometimes that we think it's always cool but it's really not. because they are also human, i can't understand why people loves to find flaws from celebrities that we end up hurting them.and what do we get from that!

perhaps, this can help save her marriage - to keep everything as privately as she/they could. i follow her on twitter and i definitely understand her decision. whatever happens, i am hoping for the best.

Being a public figure like Kris Aquino is difficult.I admire her for being quiet-knowing that it's difficult because of her personality. The public should NOT dictate how Kris should behave. Let her be herself.

In my opinion, public figure or not, one should be cautious on how much information to provide to your friends and/or to the public.

generally speaking, everyone should be responsible in what we divulge in our profiles. although we all have the right to express our opinions, but in the case of celebrties,as people who are in the spotlight, makes a big difference.yes, they are entitled just like everybody else to express whatever they want to express.but for them not to be judged negatively, they should be wise in the things they share on the web.

celebrities should know how to handle their private and public life, but others like kris aquino just wants to be the center of the world. she is a decenteng pokpok. It is just that people respects her family especially her parents too much, but she does not see that. she is so cheap and morals less. no delicadesa. she has no shame at all and her family just have to swallow all her st*p*dity and indecent exposures. someone just have to knock her in the head and tell her how she really looks in the public eye.
