Actress Ara Mina was visibly distraught as she faced the press to talk about the libel and grave coercion charges she filed against her sister, Cristine Reyes, on April 18 at the Quezon City fiscal's office, ABS-CBNNews.com reports.
Ara's lawyer said the complaint stemmed from Cristine allegedly asking Ara to give up her SUV as payment for the P1.8-million balance remaining for a Quezon City townhouse they bought for their mom in 2011.
Ara revealed that Cristine had been allegedly attacking her through text messages. She had also been destroying Ara's reputation with their relatives. This was despite Ara's efforts to reach out to her sister and fix the problem. "Hanggang makakapag-pasensya, magpa-pasensya ako (As long as it's possible, I try to be patient)," Ara is quoted as saying. (But it's too much. I can't take it anymore because of all the things she's said. I just need to do this because she won't talk to me. This is to teach her a lesson because what she's doing isn't right.)"
Ara shared some of Cristine's reported text messages with the press. One of them allegedly read, "Kung ayaw niyo manggulo ako sa buhay niyo, bayaran utang niyo sa akin. (If you don't want me to disturb your lives, pay your debts. If you don't have money, give me what I asked for.)"
Another text shared by Ara read, "I'm sure ibebenta mo ‘yang laspag mong katawan na pinagsawaan na ng lahat. Daig pa aso sa sobrang kati. (I'm sure you're going to sell your tired flesh that everyone's fed up with. You're worse than a dog with an itch to scratch.)"
(It started when I told her, 'Let's talk because I've been hearing about the things you've been saying about me.' She freaked out. She told me not to text her unless I had something good to say.)" She shared that Cristine continued harassing her via text throughout Holy Week, and she even reportedly started texting Ara's sister-in-law as well.
Ara made it clear that she was suing Cristine not because of the money disagreement, but because of her attitude. In fact, she said the balance Cristine was asking from her was nonexistent as it was the latter who owed her P500,000. (I don't need to give her anything because I've been paying for my mommy's house. I don't know what she's saying because the deed of sale is in her name. She paid the P1-million downpayment, and I paid P2.3 million in installments.)"
But she said it wasn't the money that mattered to her. "Wala akong sinisingil. (I'm not asking for anything. I just want my reputation back. We all make mistakes, but not to the point that my family gets involved in this manner. It wasn't easy for me to [file these charges] because she's popular now, and I don't want to ruin her. But she's really demeaning me and destroying my reputation. I just want her to know that no one else will help her except for her sister, and yet, she's done this.)"
As of press time, Cristine's camp has not released a statement regarding the issue.
