Juday's “Ate” Advice to Sarah Geronimo: 5 Ways to Turn Your Pain Into Gain

extra_juday.jpgJudy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo play two sisters, Rica and Cecil, in the upcoming dramedy, Hating Kapatid. In it, Juday plays Rica, who devotes her life to caring for her younger sister, Cecil (Sarah Geronimo). Their parents, played by Cherry Pie Picache and Al Tantay, are OFWs who have come home after 10 years with the intention of resuming their roles as hands-on parents, which leaves Rica in the predicament of having to accept parents who have become virtual strangers and the fact that her sister is old enough to make her own decisions and go her own way.

Both off-screen and on, Juday has taken her role very seriously. In this article on PEP.ph, she recently offered Sarah Geronimo some smart sisterly advice.

Says Juday, “Ang lagi kong sinasabi kay Sarah, try to enjoy life kasi hindi na maibabalik kung ano yung edad niya ngayon, hindi naman maire-rewind 'yon, e. Na enjoy-in niya, namnamin niya yung buhay niya, ang pagiging bata.

[I always tell Sarah to try to enjoy life since she’ll never be able to revisit this time, whatever age she is now, she won’t be able to do a rewind. She should enjoy things, savor her life, her youth.]

Read on to learn more about the life lessons Juday had to share with her on-screen sibling. To select particular tips, click on the relevant links below.

DON’T HURRY LOVE

As that classic Supremes song goes, “You can’t hurry love, / No, you just have to wait,” and that’s the same advice Juday has to give to Sarah.

Ang love life, darating ‘yan,” she tells the younger actress. “Ang mga lalaking manliligaw, marami diyan. Pero may isang lalaking darating sa buhay niya na talagang ipaglalaban siya. Hindi dapat minamadali 'yan. Nandiyan lang 'yan sa tabi-tabi, nag-aabang lang ng tamang timing.”

[As for a love life, it will come in time. There are many men who will court her. But there will be one man who will come into her life who will really fight for her. That shouldn’t be rushed. He’s just there on the sidelines, waiting for the right time.]

WORK HARD, BUT NOT TOO HARD

[With your career, it’s important to work hard. But it’s important to rest as well. Because you won’t be able to work well if you’re exhausted all the time anyway, and you won’t be able to sleep and will reach the point where you’ll get burned out.]

They do say that all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl, but it’s more than that. Taking time to enjoy your life, especially when you’re young, is a healthy choice. And while some foods can help you reduce stress, it’s still important to take regular breaks, especially if you’re working in a high-pressure job.

FALL FOR THE RIGHT GUY

Juday goes on to say that it’s normal to meet men you might fall in love with over the course of doing your work or living your life—with Sarah and other actresses, this is even more likely because of on-screen love teams. But she says she also believes in waiting until the right guy comes along.

[I believe that (love) will come into your life at the point when you’re not waiting for it and the point when you’re not asking for it. It will arrive in the form of a man whom you won’t expect, who will make you laugh, who will love you—everything.]

USE YOUR PAIN FOR GAIN

Another tidbit of advice from Juday is that one should take one’s pain and turn it into an advantage, use it to channel one’s drive for creativity or career. After all, isn’t allowing the pain others cause you to ruin your life the same as letting those people win? Much better to turn it into something positive and have the last laugh.

Juday’s tip for Sarah? Take the pain that people would use to hurt you because it makes you a better actress. Laughingly, the superstar has this advice to impart: “Sinasabi ko kay Sarah, kung may taong mananakit sa kanya, okay lang 'yan kasi it would make her a better actress. Pagkakitaan na lang niya yung mga pain kasi iyon naman ang ginawa ko. Pinagkakitaan ko silang lahat, natuwa naman ako!”

[I’ve been telling Sarah that if there’s a person who would hurt her, that’s okay since it would make her a better actress. She should capitalize on her pain since that’s what I did. I made money off all of them, and now I’m happy.]

LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCES

Turning the negative into a positive is something Juday has had ample experience in; the actress claims that she can only give the advice she’s given because she’s felt and lived through everything life has thrown at her. And she has learned from her experiences, which have helped her become all the stronger and all the better for them.

I don’t have any regrets about what I’ve lived through),” says Juday. “It made me a better person, a stronger person. In fact, it made me love life more kasi normal akong tao, hindi ako yung extraordinary na hindi nasasaktan (because I’m a normal person, I’m not some extraordinary person who doesn’t get hurt).”

We learn from our mistakes. That is how we grow as a person. We just have to make the most of any situation we are in and turn it to our advantage.
