james_yap_plans_to_fight.jpgBy now, you've probably heard the news: Kris Aquino announced that her marriage to cager James Yap was over, that she was giving up, to her friend Boy Abunda on her last episode of The Buzz on June 27. But what does James have to say about this?

Well, he's not yet ready to call it quits, he revealed in his official statement, saying he'll fight to keep his family together.

"Naniniwala ako sa kahalagahan ng pagkakaroon ng buong pamilya (I believe in the importance of keeping a family intact)," he was quoted as saying on this Spot.PH article.

"Kaya ipaglalaban ko na mapanatiling buo ang pamilya namin ni Kris, anuman ang mangyari. Marami na kaming pagsubok na pinagdaanan ni Kris before, and I don’t think na ngayon pa kami susuko. Gusto ko talagang i-save ang pagsasama namin dahil siyempre may anak kami at hindi biro ang halos anim na taon naming pagsasama."

[That's why I will fight to keep my and Kris's family together, no matter what happens. We have already undergone many trials, and I don't think that now is the time to give up. I really want to save our relationship because, of course, we have a child, and having been together for almost six years is no joke.]

He also mentioned that he promised his late mother-in-law, former president Cory Aquino, that he would never neglect his family. "Nangako ako kay Mom Cory na hindi ko pababayaan ang pamilya namin," he said.

And what does he have to say to Kris? “Mahal na mahal ko kayo ng anak ko, pati na si Josh na tunay na anak na ang turing ko. Inuulit ko It’s final, ipaglalaban ko ang pagsasama ng pamilya natin. At sa tulong ng Diyos, alam kong malalampasan natin ang pagsubok na ito.”

[I love you and my child very much, including Josh who I treat like my own son. I repeat, it's final, I will fight to keep our family together. And with God's help, I know that we will overcome this challenge.]

When asked about her husband's statement, Kris Aquino said she had no comment. "I fully intend to keep a dignified silence. My immediate family meaning my siblings respect and understand my decision. This is what matters to me.”

Poll Question:
What do you think of James Yap's promise to fight for his marriage?
  1. He's a good guy for wanting to fight for his wife and child even when Kris herself has "surrendered," but how does he plan to go about keeping the family together?
  2. It's good that he wants to fight, but marriage is about two people, and it will never work if only one of them is fighting for it.
  3. When it's over, it's over. Denial will only draw out the process and make things harder for everyone—especially Baby James.
  4. Kris forgot to mention that there's one more person who needs to understand her decision to quit on her marriage: her husband!
  5. He should just quit while he's ahead and focus on Baby James. He's better off without Kris anyway.
