Film Academy gears up for the 26th Annual Luna Awards

Apr 2, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

film_luna.jpgThe excitement about this year's Annual Academy Awards has come and gone, but in the local scene, the award-giving bodies are just starting to heat up.

For one, there's the 26th Annual Film Academy of the Philippines' (FAP) Luna Awards, which can be considered "our version of the Oscars," says Leo Martinez, Director-General of FAP. Just like the Oscars, the winners are chosen by their peers--directors nominate directors, actors nominate actors, and so on, so that their credibility cannot be questioned.

The ceremony is tentatively set for mid-August after an unexpected hiatus last year, when statuettes were given out without an awards show.

Voting has also started earlier so that the nominations will be announced in June, to be followed by the traditional Nominees' Lunch in July.

Who do you think will contend for the acting and directing awards? Do you already have a film in mind for best picture? Feel free to place your bets when you comment!
