After fighting a long battle against chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Comedy King Dolphy passed away on July 10 at 8:34 PM at the Makati Medical Center, PEP.ph reports. He was 83 years old. According to the official statement from the hospital, the acclaimed actor's cause of death was "multiple organ failure secondary to complications brought about by severe pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and acute renal failure."  Dolphy had been in the hospital since June 12.

Director Eric Quizon, who serves as the Quizon family's spokesperson, was reportedly in Bataan for a taping of upcoming fantaserye Enchanted Garden when he heard the news about his father. Dolphy was with partner Zsa Zsa Padilla as well as with some family members during his last moments.

Messages from celebrities and fans of the Comedy King immediately flooded Twitter after word of his death spread on news outlets. As of press time, the hashtag #RIPDolphy is still one of the Philippines's top Twitter trends, which means a large amount of people are tweeting about him at the same time.
