Now, we can place our bets on who will bag awards for best picture, acting, and special effects, among others. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was nominated in almost every category, including Best Picture plus a Best Actor nod for Brad Pitt. Slumdog Millionaire, which ran away with Best Picture at the Golden Globes, also earned a handful of nominations.

While The Dark Knight did not make it to the race for Best Picture, the film is still up for possible victories in eight categories, one of which is Best Supporting Actor where the late Heath Ledger is nominated. Young actress Anne Hathaway finally snagged her first nomination for Best Actress, where she competes with Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, and Melissa Leo.
