On hold. Yes, Dingdong Dantes and Karylle called it quits in September. And, yes, Karylle will leave the Kapuso network to become a Kapamilya, joining her Divine Diva mom, Zsazsa Padilla. We don’t just mean being together in the same network; they could possibly be in the same show, too. If no one from her STAGES management group reminds her of the word ethics, Karylle just might be seen someday in ASAP 08, the rival of her original show, SOP.
But there’s an operative word in our last statement: someday. ABS-CBN will have to wait until everything is settled for Karylle, as far as GMA projects are concerned. That’s why she was still seen in SOP last Sunday, and why she will still guest in the second season of Janno Gibbs’s Kakasa Ka Ba sa Grade 5?
More importantly, Karylle will still be given the privilege of singing "Lupang Hinirang" at the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Dela Hoya fight in the US on December 10. That, as we stress, is a privilege of still being a Kapuso—not a right. It is GMA, after all, who had the final say on that.
But here’s another question: what would her father—who was once quoted saying he is not in favor of seeing mother and daughter together—say about this recent development? Will that still be enforced?
Breather. This is the last week of Codename: Asero, Richard Gutierrez’s sixth straight primetime soap for GMA. It was announced that he will star next as Zorro, the mask-wearing, sword-wielding Latin crime fighter, in the local primetime remake. But that’s as far as soaps are concerned.
Before launching the soap, Richard will do a one season infotainment show to replace Paolo Contis’ Pinoy Records in the KiliTV block. Chris Tiu’s Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and Ariel and Maverick’s Masquerade remain; it’s only Paolo’s show that has a one season run.
First read here, Richard’s show has environmental touch, as he’s a member of Green Peace. Another FemaleNetwork scoop: Paolo will be hosting a game show next.
Open House. I heard that ABS-CBN’s sister station, Channel 23, is producing a local version (or is it just a derivative?) of Amazing Asia, where participants will gallivant not in Asian cities but in several Philippine provinces like Cebu, Bohol, and Iloilo among others.
Heard too that the show is open not just to the stars of its sister station but also to GMA stars including Starstruck winners Rainier Castillo of Batch 1, and Mike Tan and Ryza Cenon of Batch 2. Mike has returned; his partners were not that competitive. Ryza and Rainier are still in the thick of the race as we write. Don’t you just love reading it first here—and without authorizations yet?
The “in” thing. Everyone seems to be going or want to go indie. ABS-CBN’s biggest stars Piolo Pascual (in Chopsuey), Judy Ann Santos (in Ploning), and Sam Milby (in the upcoming Cul-de-Sac) have all done it. In the other station, Jennylyn Mercado ventured into it last year via Half Blood Samurai, and now, Mark Herras is appearing in one this November 19 via Win Asia’s Sapi. Who’s next? Can’t imagine Claudine Barretto and Jolina Magdangal getting into it, but then there’s global warming (figuratively, for the movie industry) to consider, and this is still legitimate work.
