4 Tips on Keeping Fit at any Age From Agot Isidro

Women’s Health’s August 2012 cover girl, Agot Isidro, has been in the limelight for over two decades. Now, at 46, there’s still no sign of her slowing down any time soon, as she stars in the GMA teleserye One True Love as the kontrabida Leila Samonte.

Even if she is busy with her showbiz commitments, Agot still managed to retain her fresh-faced beauty and her enviable figure through the years, and she shared some her secrets to staying in shape in an interview with Women's Health. Read on for a few of her fitness tips.


1. HAVE A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM.

Now that she’s added foster mom to her real-life roles, you might think she’s neglected her workouts. “At first, I thought, ‘How will I exercise when the baby’s here?’ But then, that’s why I have angels!” (Her “angels” are her helpers.) I have a good support system at home. I didn’t surprise them about the baby; they were also part of the plan. I told them we were going to foster, and they were so excited!”


2. WATCH WHAT YOU EAT.

Agot is careful to watch what she eats—even if she loves eating enough to list her favorite restaurants on her blog. “Why are you fat? Because of what you put in your mouth, not because you don’t sweat. If you want a lifestyle change, you have to start with your diet.” She strikes a balance between indulging and healthful eating. “I used to be ovo-lacto vegetarian, but I gave that up because I couldn’t build muscle. So I added fish… then KFC beckoned. Fried chicken is my weakness! But I haven’t eaten pork or beef for more than 10 years now. And I’m not a big fan of sweets.”


3. ACCEPT YOUR BODY.

As she’s done with her age, she has also learned to accept her body. “Some things are just THERE, and you just have to say to it, ‘Hi!’ I’m such a gym rat, but I have a puson. So what? It’s not like I’m not doing anything about it. So, just let it go.”


4. MAKE EXERCISE A PRIORITY. 

Agot stresses the value of working out. “Exercise is very important. Not just going to the gym, but doing something physical. Exercise requires mental discipline. It requires determination, motivation. Everything plays into it.”
