With its pristine shorelines and breathtaking sunsets, Bali, Indonesia is a constant choice among most honeymooners’ wish lists. It is unsurprising how Bali became a top destination; it is a fine contradiction for the adventurous or laid-back traveler. Marvel in this mystical island’s wonders; we show you how.

1.Chase your highs.

Bali’s beaches are known the world over for their surf breaks. Head over to Bali’s most famous spot, Kuta Beach, and learn how to ride the waves. Note, however, that since this is a well-known place, it can get pretty packed. Better go someplace else if you prefer a less busy vibe for your honeymoon.

You can also take a leap of faith—quite literally—on your honeymoon. Double Six, a local nightclub, offers bungee jumping to party-goers. You can also visit their site to check activities (ajhackett.com/bali).

2.Get lost in their culture.

Visiting temples is a great way to know more about this honeymoon destination. If you must choose just one, go to the Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple, which is propped upon a cliff, thus providing a good vista of the sunset.

Add a trip to Bali’s culture capital, Ubud, to your honeymoon itinerary. The Pasar Seni (Art Market) is filled with trinkets that go beyond the regular tourist shirts—although they sell those, too. The sprawling market features a two-storey retail paradise; stock up on affordable jewelry and home accents made by local artisans. Don’t forget to haggle—shopkeepers expect you to.

3.Master the art of doing nothing.

The point of your honeymoon is to enjoy each other’s company. Lounge by Bali’s quieter beaches like Sanur—a departure from the busy scene in Kuta. Other beaches like Nusa Dua, Soka, and Lovina are also great for getting lazy.

Indulge yourselves in the famous Balinese massage; this is the ultimate way to relax on your honeymoon. To enjoy a massage by the beach while watching the sunset with your husband could well be one of your honeymoon’s highlights.

How to get to Bali:

Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines fly from Manila to Jakarta. From there, take a local flight (try Mandala Air or Batavia) going to Denpasar, Bali.
